Volunteer Roles
Hall Monitor
Keeps the kids ministry area secure.
- Making sure that adults not on the schedule are identified with a visitor tag when they enter the kids ministry space.
- Ensure that kids do not leave the kids ministry space without supervision
- Unlock the door to the kids space as needed for parents called, or to the parent directed area
Time Commitment: join the kids as they are dismissed from the adult service, and remain in the volunteer position area until they have been checked out of kids ministry at the close of the service.
Check-In / Check-Out
Assist parents with check in and enter new families into the system.
- Ensure kids are checked into the correct classes.
- Check out and release kids back to the correct parent after service.
Time Commitment: Remain at the check-in station from 45 minutes prior to the service to 10 minutes after worship starts, then again when children are dismissed to check in any late-comers. Finally, as the adult service is wrapping up, we need this volunteer to return to the kids ministry area and assist in checking out the children and ensuring young children return safely to the parent who checked them in.
Classroom Helper
Assist the teacher to create a calm classroom environment.
- Calm disruptive children
- Guide children to the washrooms
- Serve snack
- Assist in checking out children
Time Commitment: Arrive 1 hour before the service starts to join the volunteer team huddle. Then join the kids as they are dismissed from the adult service, and remain in the volunteer position area until they have been checked out of kids ministry at the close of the service.
Teacher
Teach the prepared lesson to the children.
- Nursery: Supervise free play
- Preschool: Supervise free play and teach the prepared lesson & craft
- Kindergarten - Grade 3: Teach the prepared lesson and facilitate group discussion, games, snack, etc.
- Grade 4 - 6: Teach the prepared lesson and facilitate group discussion, games, snack, etc.
Time Commitment: Arrive 1 hour before the service starts to join the volunteer team huddle, then to ensure you are ready to teach your lesson. Join the kids as they are dismissed from the adult service and remain in the volunteer position area until they have been checked out of kids ministry at the close of the service.
Supervisor
Set up and oversee Summit Kids
- Set up classrooms and check in stations
- Ensure Summit Kids area is clean and ready for each service
- Supervise snack preparation volunteers
- Check the schedule to ensure all volunteers have arrived, filling any vacant roles or canceling classes as needed
- Roam the classrooms and kids ministry area to ensure all is peaceful and to support (or find support) for any teachers who may need.
- Contact parents by text, or by finding them in the service when a child needs them to come to the kids ministry area
Time commitment: Arrive at least one hour before the service starts, join the volunteer team huddle, then stay in the role until approximately 20 minutes after the service ends.
Media Assistant
Facilitate the web-based media portions of the lesson.
- Set up the computers, projectors, etc. before each service
- Ensure that the media has been downloaded, or will run well online
- Run the media during the kids ministry lessons (Grades K-3 or Grades 4-6)
- Follow along with the teacher to run the appropriate slide or video clip
Time Commitment: Arrive an hour before the service starts to join the volunteer team huddle, then prepare the computer lesson beore the service starts. Join the kids as they are dismissed from the adult service and remain in the volunteer position area until they have been checked out of kids ministry at the close of the service.
Snack Preparation
Prepare snack for each classroom on serving trays prior to the service
- Ensure any specific allergy friendly snacks are marked
- Prepare snack trays, water jugs, and cups for each classroom
Time Commitment: Arrive in the Summit Kids area an hour before the service starts to join the volunteer team huddle, then as long as it takes to prepare the scheduled snack.
Classroom Cleanup
Clean and refresh the classroom so it is ready for the next service
- Put away any craft supplies, games, or unfinished snacks
- Clean up any toys left out
- Wipe down tables and any other furniture that needs it
- Vacuum the kids ministry rooms
Time Commitment: Be in the Summit Kids area directly at the close of the service for about 15 minutes.
